Hi there I have applied for a Gladinet 4 professional plan. Hope to enjoy this tool. Questions awaiting for a reply will be numbered

1) User interface: Fonts in the program tabs are far to small. On large displays with enlarged DPI, they are barely readable: see here

2) Program usage: Apart from and old Gladinet 3 cloud backup PDF, it seems like there's no user manual! How is that? How do I start using this tool without a manual? As a result I'm posting here.

Let's start!

This is my scenario:
- 2 computers
- 1 Google Drive account with additional storage (85GB)
- NO Google Drive client
- Wish to sync the two computers using Google Drive storage: Computer_A change->Google Drive update->Computer_B update

I have manually uploaded some data to Google Drive in the past (my Desktop folder), so I have started configuring the SYNC tab in Gladinet4 accordingly sync Google Drive folder with local folder. As a result something happened and Gladinet started to do something. In the ADVANCED tab I have discovered some tabs that will provide some information on the current status.

3) As the Google Drive folder was already containing 99% of the local folder I would expect a first long scan to list files in the cloud and local files, with a subsequent sync, however since last night Gladinet is performing some tasks and it is hard for me to understand what's happening. Is Gladinet 4 downloading/uploading unchanged data although already stored in the cload? Is there a way to skip this first pass, letting Gladinet to sync only changes?

4) In Gladinet ADVANCED->SYSTEM ACTIVITIES there's a task list; clicking the doubled arrow button will expand some content; although some pending tasks and subtasks are listed, upload/download acitivity is set to 0kb/s. Why is that?

5) It is unclear what subtasks are. Is there a way to list all files/folders in the queue?

6) While Gladinet is updating, using the browser, I see that some contants online in the cloud have been updated, however Gladinet is not updating folder dates accordingly: for example my Desktop folder is synhronized by Gladinet. Gladinet has correctly uploaded new/modified files with the proper date, 26th of july, however the Desktop folder date is left to 7th of June. It looks like Gladinet did not update the folder date....

I will ask more questions depending on your first replies.

While waiting a few more thoughts

- I have thousands pendings taksk in the sync I have created, most of them SYNCDOWNLOAD, why is that? Listed files are identical copies of local files; hundreds of listed pending files have UPLOAD status, while they are identical copies. Is there a way to instrcut Gladinet to ignore identical files?
- Although thousands pending files most of the time there's nothing in the "running" windows. Sometimes a sync task starts. What does really triggers sync?
- Upload/Download, when performed is very slow I'm on a 20MB/1MB up/down DSL connection. BTW there's no speed limit set in Gladinet options. No way to exceed 90KBPS, is there a reason for this?

Pleas answer also to the questions in the previous post

Thanks
Riccardo

Confirmed: Gladinet is resyncing identical files.....huge waste of time and bandwidth.... no way to instruct Gladinet to ignore identical files? BTW, what will happen when I will start syncing the second computer that holds a copy of the same data (has been cloned)... will it start to download all the data again? :-|

There is just no good way to compare the files on local with files on the cloud. Sorry. To compare two files, have to download the one in cloud back to local and run the compare.

Since your Google Docs already contains 99% of the file, you can setup the two way sync with an empty local folder. All files will be downloaded. Then run any tool to compare the synced down folder with the local copy. If you see some new files or updated files in local, copy them to the sync folder. It will be synced with Google Docs.

And the subtask is a task to upload/download a file, create or delete a folder, etc.

We don't sync folder timestamp. It is managed by your own OS.

As for the font, we will open an enhancement request for that.

gang, thanks for replying.

Really there's no file date stamp Google Drive API?

BTW, how about the speed limit, uploading downloading through the browser seems much faster...

We are talking about the folder timestamp, right?

For file timestamp, we do return it in explorer.

I mean the file timestamp. Why can't you use that for the first sync pass? You could add an option to let users choose to skip identical files based on filename+size+filestamp...

BTW why there's a speed limit when synchronizing?

When you upload a file to cloud, the file timestamp is updated to the upload time, instead of the original time. Timestamp is not reliable in cloud environment.
