Hi there,

Is there a way to use Gladinet to sync the same folder to multiple PC's? i.e. I have a work PC and a home PC. If I edit a file in either location, it's sync'd to the other. I have been using a cloud folder, but the latency is causing a problem. I really need the actual file locally on each machine. This behavior is provided by the Google Drive PC client. Can it be done with Gladinet?

Regards.

Yes, you can mount the same cloud account, like Skydrive or Google Docs on both machines. Then setup two way sync to the same folder in Google Docs on both machines. Then changes on one machine will be synced to the other machine.

gang,

Thanks for the reply. That did work, however with one unfortunate side-effect. It seems that Gladinet is continually 'touching' the files on my local file system even when no sync is required. I haven't figured out which attribute is being updated, but while editing the files in the eclipse IDE, I'm continually asked: "File Changed. The file has changed on the file system. Do you want to replace the editor contents with these changes?". This is quite inconvenient and unworkable.

Do you know what attribute is being updated and if so, is there a way to avoid this problem?

Regards.

Is the timestamp for the file updated when you hit the issue?

No - that was the first thing I checked.

Actually, after some more investigation I have found that the file stamp is being updated after I do a local edit. So in summary - the local version of the file has it's time stamp updated when I edit it (as expected), however after a few minutes the time stamp gets updated again by Gladinet.

This is undesirable behavior, as no more changes has been made to the file since the edit. I would only expect the time stamp of the local file to be updated if a change was made to it (either locally or remotely).

Is there a way to configure Gladinet to stop doing this?

What's your Gladinet version? And you are using Google Docs to sync the files, right?

Home PC running version 4.0.874.19123 (64 bit)
Work PC running version 4.0.881.19499 (32 bit)

Problem encountered on both PC's

Using "Google Cloud Storage Bucket" as backing data store.

Can you upgrade the other machine to 4.0.881? Do you still have the same problem?

I'm assuming this intended multi PC sync capability is available for Pro level or higher, right? Can you pls give me a status of this quickly-out-of-sync issue?

My hope is that Skydrive + Gladinet Pro will allow continual sync between cloud and multiple PC's, similar to Dropbox functionality. Is this true?

The Fact that most cloud services time-stamp the uploaded file with upload time rather than local creation time would seem to make Cloud to PC synchronization very difficult, has Gladinet Pro figured some solution to this problem.

Tnx!

Actually to clarify - the problem exists for just a single machine (for example when the other is switched off), which is running 4.0.881.19499 (32 bit). So upgrading the home version won't change the situation -as it's off!!

But just FYI - I have upgraded the other machine and the problem still exists.

Hmm, wonder what's special on that specific PC. Or maybe it is just for the specific task. If you setup a small sync task on the machine, do you hit the same problem?
