OpenStack Swift Web Browser Access

From a Simple Tool to a Business Solution

Turn OpenStack into a web-based, secure access and file sharing solution!

Do More with Open Infrastructure

Have you adopted OpenStack as part of your private cloud strategy? Are you looking for solutions to enhance its object store? Have you migrated data to OpenStack Swift and are you looking for a web based file manager to check it out? CentreStack is a self hosted secure access and file sharing solution. With it, you can use OpenStack Swift as an object store and share files and folders as web links from outlook or from web browsers. You can also access files from web browsers, a mapped drive or from iOS or Android devices.

Challenges of OpenStack Swift

OpenStack Swift is kind of like a hard drive, which is not designed to be used directly but as a building block behind a tool like Windows Explorer or a file sharing platform such as a Windows file server. Its object store nature makes backup and archival the most popular application now on OpenStack Swift. With CentreStack, data center providers can add secure access and file sharing, business continuity and disaster recovery to their offering.

CentreStack Solution

CentreStack uses its OpenStack Swift API integration and your on-premises file servers to create hybrid cloud file servers with mobile access and secure file sharing over the Internet.

Secure Access & File Sharing

CentreStack bridges file servers and OpenStack Swift for secure remote access and file sharing.

Disaster Recovery

Use OpenStack Swift as a central cloud file repository with version control, file change history and audit tracing to provide business continuity.

Easy Cloud Migration

Create hybrid deployments with local file servers that can seamlessly convert to cloud file servers based on OpenStack Swift.

CentreStack Feature Highlights

Cloud Mapped Drive

Remotely access file shares from a drive letter, without the need for a VPN. Mobile applications included!

On-Demand Sync

Minimize storage and bandwidth consumption by automatically syncing and caching only the files you need.

Version Control

CentreStack adds version control and file protection to the local file server.

Hybrid File Server

Local file server and OpenStack swift object store synchronize with each other for business continuity and easy cloud migration.

Active Directory

Preserve NTFS permissions and Active Directory identities when connecting file servers to OpenStack Swift.

Folder Permission

Granular folder permissions that can mirror NTFS permissions or start from scratch.

Deployment Option #1

Hybrid Local File Servers with OpenStack swift

CentreStack File Server Agent installed on the file server that will migrate to OpenStack Swift over time. Supports Windows 2003/2008/2012/2016/2019 (32-bit/64-bit).

If the file server is in the same network as the CentreStack server, a direct connection is also possible (see Option #2). The file server is optional if you have other ways to migrate data to OpenStack swift or just want a simple mapped drive to access the files and folders.

Deployment Option #2

File Servers with Direct Cloud Access

If you've already migrated local file server data into the same data center where the OpenStack infrastructure is, CentreStack can be used to provide a direct file access solution for remote and mobile devices.

Problems Solved

CentreStack file server integration and enablement installs agent software on your file server or directly mounts your file server's network shares into CentreStack when direct access is available. It intelligently manages local and cloud storage together to provide a range of cloud enablement options.

Most importantly, the active directory security model is maintained with NTFS permissions as if it was never changed and end users get a familiar drive letter to access files from remote locations. File locking is also maintained for multiple users collaborating on the same file at the same time.

The end result is that the file server network shares are synchronized into OpenStack and CentreStack provides a complete access solution from Windows mapped drives and Mac Finder mounted volumes to iOS and Android applications that need to access OpenStack swift storage securely.

Secure Access and File Sharing

Attach local file server folders to your CentreStack server. Once attached, they become accessible online, enabling remote access. At the same time, the original network shares remain accessible over the local area network.

Migrate Existing File Shares to OpenStack swift Storage

Alternatively, file server content can be migrated over time to OpenStack swift in a hybrid environment. In addition to remote access, this enables a background backup process for business continuity.

Global Workspace

Create a global name space unifying different file servers with a single directory structure, enabling multi-site collaboration. It is a distributed file system in the cloud, backed by OpenStack Swift.

Server in the Cloud

You can also leverage the features above by using the existing file server from OpenStack nova Virtual Machines in the open infrastructure.
